Press Release: Gonzo film HIGH THERE is released on Google Play

Popular digital distribution platform is latest to showcase the controversial, award-winning, internationally-acclaimed nonfiction comedy

HOLLYWOOD (JANUARY 13) -- High There, the internationally-acclaimed, award-winning nonfiction gonzo film comedy, is now available for sale, rent and viewing on Google Play.

The popular digital distribution platform and media store will make the BRINKvision film available to millions of viewers in more than 70 countries.

High There, directed by Wayne Darwen and Henry Goren, was released on VOD and limited edition DVD by BRINKvision in June. Since then, the film has been available for sale on DVD on every sales sites from Amazon.com to Walmart.com, and On Demand, on platforms including Amazon.com, Vimeo.com and the subscription movie viewing service, Fandor.

High There was recipient of the People's Choice Award at the first annual Cannabis Film Festival in Humboldt County, California, and has been noted as the best-reviewed documentary film of 2015. Among its many positive reviews were raves from indie movie websites, including Documentary Dude ("wildly entertaining"), Movie & TV Series Geek ("A perfect example of a memorable and really good piece of filmed cinema"), and A Bucket of Corn, which called High There "a perfect film."

High There premiered at the Action on Film International Film Festival outside Los Angeles. High There stars and production team have done extensive publicity for the film, including personal appearances at events such as VidCon in Anaheim, the Echo Park Rising Festival in Los Angeles, HempCon in San Bernardino, the 420 Games' Weed for Warriors March in Santa Monica and the Las Vegas Hempfest, where they received the endorsement of marjuana comedy legend Tommy Chong.

They have also been leading voices in the fight to free marijuana activist Jon Peditto, facing 10 to years in prison for cultivating seven marijuana plants.

High There is a Sam Peters International Productions Unlimited and Good Story Productions presentation of a Rat Lung picture, distributed by BRINKvision on limited edition DVD and VOD.

Principal photography on a sequel, Area 420, is now underway.

Plot: Product Description: Hunter S. Thompson meets Barry McKenzie in this dark nonfiction comedy about a real-life, legendary but down-and-out tabloid television journalist who heads to Hawaii to film a marijuana travel series, only to become lost in a fog of drugs, sex and paranoia as he uncovers a secret government war to control the marijuana trade. The film touches on the controversial federal prosecution of marijuana advocate Roger Christie and his THC Ministry.

My Review and Thoughts:

This is a very interesting and hysterical documentary on the reality of WEED. No, not the things growing out of your flower bed; that is unless you live in Colorado. I think this is a prime example of a perfect Documentary. I was thoroughly entertained. I laughed and was very much educated. I ain’t going to lie, I have smoked a Joint and ate one hell of a Yummy Brownie before. Weed ain’t my thing, but for those who love it, smoke it, or use it as a medical means, I am all for it. It’s a natural plant. If the government was smart, they would legalize it, tax the crap out of it, and sell it like Cigarettes. Our economy would flourish, plain and simple.

This is an experience to watch. Brink Vision has done it again and brought out a very unique film like they tend to do. I really did not know what to expect going into this but was very satisfied in the end. I think it’s a perfect example of the art form of film making through a real person, situations, and the exploration of the human species in all its weird HIGH form.

I can’t speak highly enough about this odd ball non-fiction comedy. A true eye opening trip, pardon the pun, documentary. Mix in all the weird reality of the government, the marijuana advocate Roger Christie, and his THC Ministry, and you have one wild ride of drugs, sex and yes as you would guess, massive paranoia. Now there are two directors both well educated in the form of cinema. Wayne Darwen and Henry Goren. Wayne is a long time journalist and producer, and Henry is a video-grapher. Now something very interesting and wild for all you movie lovers and Oliver Stone freaks, is that Wayne was the inspiration for the character Wayne Gale in Oliver Stone’s masterpiece Natural Born Killers. Now both directors appear in the film under different names, Wayne is Dave High and Henry is Roland Jointz.

This is possibly one of the best documentaries I have seen in a long time. It’s truly original and a perfect example of everything to do in a memorable, wild, over the top and perfect piece of filmed cinema. The reality based ordeal, the characters, the travel log like atmosphere, and the wild comical truths leave a truly lasting impression.

I feel this is a perfect film. There is no flaw with this documentary. I was thoroughly entertained and it gave me a wild ride, simply put, HIGHly recommend.

Wayne Darwen to promote newly-released VOD & DVD on 'Watching The Hawks'

HOLLYWOOD (JUNE 28) -- Wayne Darwen, director and star of the award-winning nonfiction film High There, will be the featured guest on RT America's 'Watching the Hawks' program on Wednesday, July 1.

The tabloid television pioneer and newly-branded "420 hero" will be interviewed by hosts Tyrel Ventura and Tabetha Wallace, and is expected to hit controversial topics including marijuana laws, government intrusion into personal privacy, network news scandals involving figures including Brian Williams, and the influence of Fox News.

Darwen, who worked many years as journalist for Rupert Murdoch's organization, was the model for Robert Downey Jr.'s newsman in Oliver Stone's film, Natural Born Killers. Stone's son Sean is a co-host of Watching the Hawks.

High There has soared up the DVD and VOD sales charts since its release by BRINKvision on Tuesday. The nonfiction "gonzo" comedy is both internationally-acclaimed and award-winning, having taken the prestigious People's Choice award at the Cannabis Film Festival in May.

Darwen is beginning a round of television and radio appearances to promote the film, in which he appears as "Dave High," who arrives in Hawaii to film "a travel series for stoners," but falls in with the local hippies and stumbles upon a DEA plot to imprison a local cannabis advocate. According to The Australian newspaper, Darwen "has been described as the new Hunter S. Thompson-- the new king of gonzo journalism."

Since its debut in March, Watching the Hawks has attracted a young, intelligent audience four days a week, as it gives viewers a fresh perspective and honest debate on many issues ignored by the rest of the mainstream media.

It was a powerful, loud and oddly smokeless evening as legendary tabloid figures, top award-winning producers and an adult film star were among the crowd at the trendy El Bar in Hollywood last night to celebrate the release of the gonzo comedy film High There.

With the limited edition DVD selling out its first run on Amazon.com and sales figures sending the disc and VOD skyrocketing up the sales ranks on Tuesday, there was reason to celebrate for directors and stars Wayne Darwen and Henry Goren, who were in attendance along with with producer Burt Kearns, associate producer Doug Bruckner, production assistant Sam Kearns, and in a rare North American appearance, the film's executive producer and public relations legend, the Hong Kong-based Sam Peters.

Darwen, Kearns and Bruckner formed part of a tabloid reunion at the El Bar, as they were joined by by their mentor and former boss, Emmy-award winning producer and tabloid television founder Peter Brennan, his wife and P&L Media partner, Emmy-winning producer Lisa Lew and producer and former Premier Story host Alison Holloway. All in the group worked together twenty years ago, breaking news in the OJ Simpson case.
